WAMSLEY Duane E. Duane E. Wamsley, 75, of Elk Lake, Michigan died with his wife and children by his side on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, after a courageous 20 month battle with cancer. A devoted career educator, Mr. Wamsley was a graduate of the University of Toledo with a Master's in Education. He taught at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI, was a teacher and assistant principal at Maumee High School in Maumee, OH, was principal of Fremont Ross High School in Fremont, OH and proudly completed his 30 year career as principal of Alliance High School in Alliance, OH. He retired to beautiful Elk Lake 18 years ago, where he treasured a lifetime of memories with family and friends in a lakeside home he helped to build. A loving and devoted husband, dad, papa, and friend he is survived by his wife of 51 years and college sweetheart, Anita L.; children, Shelly (Stewart) Rea of Medina, OH, Stephen D. of Lakewood, OH; granddaughters, Kari and Kelly Rea of Medina OH; brother, Larry (Diane) Wamsley of Toledo, OH; sister-in-law, Anita M. Wamsley of Medina, OH; several nieces and nephews and countless teachers, students and friends whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Julia (nee Fanning) Wamsley: stepmother, Elizabeth Wamsley; and brother, Lee Wamsley. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009, at 12:30 p.m. at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 North Court St., Medina, OH. The Rev. Frank Sparks Pastor Emeritus, of Northminster Presbyterian Church will officiate. Visitation will be 4-7:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2009, at the funeral home. The family would like to express their gratitude to Denise and Jackie at Munson Hospice for their kind and compassionate care during the last days of his life. At his request, a celebration of Duane's life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Munson Hospice and Palliative Care, 1105 Sixth Street, Traverse City, Michigan 49684.
