SCHEFFERT LaVerna "Betty" Published in Toledo Blade on Dec. 25, 2009 SCHEFFERT LaVerna "Betty" LaVerna "Betty" Scheffert, 77, of South Toledo passed away Monday, December 21, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. She was born in Toledo to Maurice and Frances Head. Betty, as she was known to many, was a Libbey High School graduate and earned her bachelor and Masters degree in education at the University of Toledo. For eighteen years she taught in the Maumee City School system, served as a church organist for 30 years and was a sixty-five year member of Church of St. Andrew where she served in many capacities. Surviving are Robert H. Scheffert, her husband of 46 years; son, Robert Scheffert; daughter, Elisabeth Scheffert, and 2 grandchildren, Jordan and Rory Scheffert. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 27th at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue. Funeral services will be held at Church of St. Andrew, 3620 Heatherdowns Blvd. on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials in Betty's name may be given to Church of St. Andrew General Fund or the Leukemia Society. Special thanks to the caring staff at Hickman Cancer Center and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
